Where to be: SBBS; Scissor Bills Big Sky
When to go: after the lifts close around 4pm; a true après!
What to order: Montana brews and of course, the nachos
Known as the last 'liftie' bar and local hangout, this spot at the mountain village base area is full of character and friendly staff and patrons alike. It has a 'dive' bar atmosphere and is just the right amount of busy so you won't feel like packaged sardines. Another plus: the views of the never-ending mountains from the booths. Check it out Thursdays-Sundays for live music starting at 3:30pm and jamming out until 5:30.
Don't know what food to order? The local favorite is the nachos! They're stacked high and are the perfect group snack to conquer the hunger caused from skiing Lone Peak all day, elevation 11,166 ft. My group also ordered the wings which were flavorful and had a nice jolt of spice.
To simmer down that spice from the wings, test out one of the local Montana brews. They currently have on tap favorites from Beehive Basin Brewery, Big Sky Brewing Co., Bozeman Brewing Co., Bayern Brewing and MAP Brewing Co. In addition, my personal favorite right off the slopes is the 'Alpine' (peppermint schnapps, hot chocolate and whipped cream) to cozy up after being out in the cold temps.
Scissor Bills Saloon is open everyday from 11am-'late night' with food served 11am-10pm.
